The designs that did not disappoint

The submission stage has now closed for the architectural awards to be presented at the Festival of Architecture, which will be held by the Eurobuild publishing house in September. A total of 56 architectural designs that were realised in 2016 qualified for the competition. “Whenever we open the registration process we always have a sense of uncertainty. We don’t know what kind of feedback to expect, but we were not disappointed as organisers this time. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Eurobuild Awards in Architecture survey,” emphasises Katarzyna Matejuk of Eurobuild Conferences.
The designs entered this year are all without exception uniquely interesting and high quality projects. The nominations for the Office Building of the Year category include projects that have already made a significant mark on the Warsaw map, such as Q22 or The Park. They also include projects in other parts of Poland, such as the new home of weekly publication Tygodnik Wiadomości Wrzesińskich and the council offices of Wielka Wieś district. In the Revitalisation of the Year category, some real architectural gems have been unearthed among the nominations. Buildings that were restored to their former glory and brought back to life in 2016 include Hala Koszyki in Warsaw, the Otto Gehlig Villa in Łódź and the Depot History Centre in Wrocław. A number of eco-friendly buildings also saw the light of day in 2016. These entries are mostly office buildings, but among them there is also the Accent Eco residential complex as well as the Mercure Stare Miasto hotel. The jury will also have plenty to choose from in the Workplace Solution of the Year category, as the nominations include offices opened by Allegro, Grupa Pracuj and T-Mobile. Finally, urban space, if well designed, can help to transform a city’s image while improving the lives of its residents. In 2016 such new areas were completed in Warsaw, Łódź and Wrocław. “We are happy about the high standard of the competition.
